It was a Monday, on a slightly chilly night, around 9 pm in our friend’s home. We had just flown into Adelaide from Sydney and after a quick freshening up, we were sitting in their beautiful living room, taking it all in. The lights were dim, the room was filled with a warm, cozy glow and you could hear the sound of dinner simmering on the stove.
Ahsan had cooked some desi chinese food for us and as both him and Mehwesh prepped for all of us to eat together, it felt like the most wholesome feeling to just be there and observe the warmth of that moment.
We spent the next few days, as some of you may have seen on my Instagram, spending our Eid holiday together over heartwarming conversations and good food. Time moved slow but also quite fast, if you know what I mean. We then flew back home to a couple more get-togethers with friends. Days were full, hearts even fuller.
I think the thing about good relationships, friendships is that they give you so much to think about. You learn from them, they energise you. But also, there can often be a high on which such meetups leave you, and then you resume your usual life very quickly without skipping a beat.
And Eid, like I guess any holiday, whether Christmas or Diwali - it can be that busy time, where you celebrate and then slip back into instantly resuming work, school, routines, that you kind of don’t get the time to fully process how those days really made you feel. How did you truly absorb all the goodness from those exchanges. What did you take away from Eid.
So I thought I’d just take a bit of time to reflect on some of the things I’ve found my mind going over since we came back home. And if you’re up for it, I think you could actually try the same for yourself, if you haven’t already.
I think the world is such that a lot of us are just spinning away at different things in our everyday, and I think reflecting over important days in life, is that channel that helps to realign your priorities and ground your identity.
So in no special order, here are five of my reflections from our holidays during Eid. Let’s go.
